Introduction

  • The Enterprise Portal Solution (EPS) is not a Star Trek transportation device. Rather, it is just another phrase for "the library's website".
  • With our current website, users can find information about the library, access the library catalog, search databases, and follow links to outside resources vetted by librarians.
  • The EPS allows customers to do those same things.

Online Library Catalog

Holds

Introduction

  • Click here for an Overview of the Holds process.
  • Customers can use the EPS to place holds on items (available or unavailable).
  • We (staff) would not use the EPS to place holds for customers. We would follow the procedures in Workflows.
  • However, we may need to instruct customers on placing holds via the online catalog.

Placing the Hold

  • When viewing a results list, you will see a Hold button for each result.
  • Clicking on that button will take you to this screen.
  • Enter your Library User ID (library card number).
  • Enter your Pin (usually the last four digits of your social security number).
  • Select a Pickup Library.
  • Click on Hold.
  • If the item is currently available, then this hold will appear on the next Pick List.
  • If all items are currently unavailable, the customer will be placed in the hold queue.

Placement in the Hold Queue

  • Once a customer places an item on hold, they probably would like to know their placement in the hold queue.
  • To do that, customers need to access their account information.
  • On the side of the screen, you will see some account options, including My Items on Hold.
  • Clicking on those account options will prompt the user to insert their Username and Password.
  • The Username is a library card number (or User ID).
  • The Password is their PIN number (generally the last 4 digits of their Social Security Number).
  • Once logged in, the customer will see their current holds and their placement in the hold queue for each item.

Rooms

Introduction

  • We have always provided links to other resources on the Web regarding certain topics. The Virtual Health Information Center (http://www.memphislibrary.org/virtualhic/) is a good example of this.
  • However, the EPS comes with a tools called Rooms.
  • Rooms is a tool that we can use to organize all of our links to outside resources.
  • This makes it easy for the customer to utilize these tools.
  • The EPS comes with 10 preset Room categories. We also have the capability to add or modify these Rooms.

Accessing the Rooms

  • The various Rooms are located on the left side of the page. Click on a link to enter a Room.

Navigating the Rooms

  • Many Rooms have multiple sub-Rooms located within the larger Room (hierarchical format).
  • For example, if you click on Home and Garden, you are given the option to follow either Home Improvement or Food & Drink.
  • Following Home Improvement takes you to a Room with many links to outside resources.
  • You also have the option to narrow your focus to Do-It-Yourself, Lawn & Garden, or Decorating & Interior Design.
  • If you click on Lawn & Garden, you are given more resources, yet you can still narrow your focus further to Gardening or Lawncare.
  • In other words, the Rooms provide a wealth of material for customers to browse.
